Jetstar Adds A321neo Flights from Cairns to Denpasar & Perth

It has been revealed this week that Jetstar will add more flights using it’s Airbus A321neo from Cairns to Denpasar & Perth.

Courtesy of data from AeroRoutes.com, the airline will add extra capacity as a result of this aircraft placement.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

It is understood the Jetstar Airbus A321neo aircraft will operate the Cairns (CNS) to Denpasar (DPS) & Perth (PER) flights from March 2025.

At the moment, the flights are operated by the standard Airbus A320 aircraft in their fleet.

From March 30 next year, the Denpasar route will transition over to the new aircraft type, with the Perth route coming on April 1.

Furthermore, the timings for both flights are as follows:

  • Cairns-Denpasar:
    • DEP CNS 1210 ARR DPS 1455
    • DEP DPS 2330 ARR CNS 0600+1
  • Cairns-Perth:
    • DEP CNS 0705 ARR PER 1020
    • DEP PER 2355 ARR CNS 0605+1

Jetstar appears to be getting flights for the upcoming new periods such as Winter 2024/25 and Summer 2025 ready already.

For example, the airline announced plans to serve Bangkok from Brisbane earlier this month.

Starting December 13th, they’ll be launching direct flights between Brisbane and Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

This marks Jetstar’s 20th route departing from Brisbane, further solidifying their commitment to Queensland’s aviation scene.

A Capacity Difference…

There is a capacity difference between the Airbus A320 and the A321neo that will be servicing the Jetstar Cairns to Denpasar & Perth flights.

As per data from Planespotters.net, the Airbus A320 seats 180 seats in an all-economy setup.

However, the Airbus A321neo seats 232 passengers in an all-economy setup, a 52 seat difference.

With extra capacity and more fuel-efficient aircraft, this will no doubt boost the airline’s revenue on those routes.

With Denpasar from Cairns at 4x weekly, this adds an extra 10,816 seats per year to the route.

As for Perth, this adds 8,112 seats per year, so an extra 18,928 opportunities to sell tickets across the two destinations.

In conclusion, this looks to be a step in the right direction for the airline.

With capacity up gauges through larger aircraft on the Cairns to Denpasar and Perth flights, there is more revenue up for grabs.

Furthermore, as the airline continues to receive more Airbus A321neos, this will result in more capacity offered.

It will also mean that the older Airbus A320s will eventually be sent for retirement due to efficiencies.

But for now, all eyes will be on March 2025 for when this upgauge is expected to happen to see what success it has.
