Qatar Closes Air Space to All Commercial Air Traffic

In the last few moments it has been announced that Qatar will close it’s airspace for all commercial air traffic. The government said this move was made “in order to ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors”.

The announcement was made via a post on X and has been followed up with important announcements from foreign governments as the situation develops.

Qatar is home to the largest US military base in the Middle East, Al Udeid Air Base. About 8,000 US citizens live there, according to the State Department.

This latest development as come after “a credible threat” to the US-run coalition air operations centre at Al Udeid Air Base, with base personal being put on high readiness.
